Digital Camera
Manufacture Period: 1998
CoolPix 600 with SB-E600 Flash Unit
This early camera was the first digital camera purchased by the School of Journalism in 1999 for the publication now called Capital Current.
More compact and sleeker in design than earlier Nikon digital cameras, it was the first to use a compact flash card, and was generally quite sophisticated for the time. Proceeded by the CoolPix 100 and 300, it was an addition to the CoolPix line of point-and-shoot cameras. Despite being under the brand name of Nikon, it was developed by Panasonic and also sold under the name PalmCam OV-DC 1580.
Not only an interesting piece of early digital camera technology, the Nikon CoolPix 600 is also a piece of the School of Journalism and Communication’s history.
