POWER & RESPONSIBILITY
19th annual Communication Graduate Caucus Conference
The 2024 Communication Graduate Caucus (CGC) Conference, with the theme Power & Responsibility, invites scholars to examine how changes in media and communications shape, and are shaped by social, cultural, political, economic, and historical developments.
Full conference program
As uncoverings of systemic bias and unethical issues in the field of technology and in communication and media technologies themselves are continuously brought to light, communication and media users are shown that technology is fundamentally shaped by the racial, ethnic, gender and other inequalities prevalent in society, and typically makes these inequalities worse. This theme also aims to examine our role as media users in our positions of power and ability to use communication and media technologies to produce, post, comment, and share content with public audiences. What roles have influencers and politicians (i.e. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jordan Peterson, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Piers Morgan, Donald Trump, Andrew Tate) played in contributing to issues involving power, accountability, and responsibility in media and society?
