Cost: | Enrolment fee: $500 plus HST. There is a registration cap of 25 participants. A student price of $200 plus HST per person is also available for current registered students. This workshop will teach participants to to use spreadsheets, mapping and other software to turn raw data into stories. The course will emphasize the particular skills reporters and communicators need in order to develop innovative and intriguing ways to use data.
This intensive, hands-on workshop will help participants:
· Learn how to handle data in Microsoft Excel – from beginner to advanced
· Use mapping to find news stories in “spatial” data
· Create data sets of limitless size with MySQL
· Harvest data from the internet directly to their computer
