From summer intern to deputy city editor
Alison Mah first sank her teeth into journalism as an undergrad at the Ubyssey, the UBC’s student newspaper. That experience sparked a passion that would take her to Carleton’s Master of Journalism program, an editorial internship at Toronto Life, and finally to a full-time job at the Ottawa Citizen. There, she was promoted from a summer intern to a web editor to assistant city editor, and finally to her current role as deputy city editor — a high-pressure position where she assigns and oversees the newsroom’s roster of journalists. To manage stress, she recommends a daily mug of green tea and a huge desk-sized calendar to organize all your thoughts.
