Biography
After graduating from Carleton, Karen spent a dozen years as a reporter, producer and anchor for CBC TV and Radio in Ottawa, Halifax, Vancouver, and Kelowna, before transitioning into another dozen years doing public relations, marketing, and communications work for a variety of non-profit and for-profit organizations. Since 2014, Karen’s focus has been on working with women survivors of intimate partner violence and abuse, first as executive director of Kelowna Women’s Shelter, and currently as co-lead of SOAR (Supporting Survivors of Abuse and Brain Injury through Research), a community-based, collaborative initiative exploring the intersection of brain injury and intimate partner violence.
