Mark MacKinnon started his career by cold-calling newspaper editors in South Africa for a job, and his subsequent stint at Port Elizabeth’s Herald prompted the realization he wanted to be a foreign correspondent. In his 20 years with The Globe and Mail, he’s been posted to Moscow, Beijing and the Middle East; he now covers Europe.
