What you will get out of it: Learn how to prepare your LinkedIn profile and online networking strategies before attending the Fall Career & Networking Fair on October 9
LinkedIn is a powerful tool you can use to identify and amplify your brand, make connections in your field, search for jobs, and more! Join Career Services at this virtual workshop where you will discover how to make a stand-out professional profile and cultivate your online network, which will be especially useful in preparation for the Fall Career & Networking Fair on October 9. This session is for Carleton University students and alumni.
During this workshop, you will learn about:
- Selecting a profile photo and banner picture
- Writing a catchy headline and “About” summary
- Content suggestions for other key LinkedIn profile sections
- Basics for how to use LinkedIn when networking and conducting a customized job search
- Differences between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree connections
- Suggestions for good LinkedIn connections, the best way to send a connection request (especially after attending a networking event), and how to maintain the connection
- Suggestions for what to follow or post about on LinkedIn while factoring in the LinkedIn algorithm.
What to Expect
This workshop will consist of PowerPoint slides (visible via a shared screen), short instructional videos from social media experts, interactive polls and discussion questions, and electronic fillable handouts that will be shared via the Zoom chat feature.
How to Prepare
- Ensure your Zoom account is up to date, your electronic device is charged, and your internet connection is reliable.
- You do not need to have a fully completed LinkedIn profile to attend this session, however, we advise that you already have an account created before attending the workshop and an updated resume in order to have a basic understanding of your skills and experiences.
How to Attend
Register for this session on this mySuccess event post. On October 3, those who register for this session will be sent a Zoom link 2 hours before the start of the workshop. The link will only allow one sign-in attempt per device.
