Resume Workshop – Session 2: How to Write a Persuasive Cover Letter

Whether you’re a seasoned job seeker or just starting to explore the job market, this four-part, in-person Resume Workshop Series is tailor-made to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to stand out in today’s competitive job landscape! Attend every session, or just the ones that are relevant to you. This series allows students and alumni to get tips from a Career Consultant about resumes and includes time to work on your resume each session so you can apply the knowledge you’ve learned.

A strong cover letter can increase your chances of landing an interview. As such, Session 2 covers the basics of creating a noteworthy cover letter, including:

  • How the cover letter differs from the resume
  • Proper structure and layout
  • How to connect your experience to each application

What to Expect

  • Viewing a PowerPoint presentation that covers the above topics
  • Working on your resume/cover letter and seeking input from the presenter
  • Participating in activities related to creating a resume/cover letter

How to Prepare

  • Bring your laptop, tablet, iPad, etc. to work on your resume/cover letter during the workshop
  • You can also print out a hard copy and write notes by hand with a pen and paper
