CHES was asked by Yad Vashem Toronto to invite 50 Ottawa grade 11 students to participate in the “Ambassadors of Change” program which is part of the 2016 National Holocaust Remembrance Day Event on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

This is the first time that Ottawa students are going to participate in this event CHES is pleased to assist Yad Vashem in this project. In doing so CHES has become a member of the Zachor Coalition.

In the past Yad Vashem bused students from Montreal and Toronto. This year CHES was asked to recruit 50 grade 11 students. The other 100 will arrive from Montreal and Toronto.

The event is comprised of two segments:

(1) an interactive program called “Ambassadors of Change,” which will take place from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

(2) the National Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony, which will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. (followed by a reception from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.)

During last year’s “Ambassadors of Change” program, about 120 students of varied faiths and cultures from several secondary schools met with Jewish Holocaust survivors to hear their firsthand experiences and participated in mixed-group discussions about the relevance of the Holocaust in today’s world.

The format this year will be similar to last year’s event. CHES forwarded an invitation to 39 educators in the OCDSB and the OCB. CHES also invited the March of the Living organizers to send a few representatives. CHES will accept participating students at a first come first serve basis until we have 50 confirmed students.
