History of the DFL

Between 2010-2019, the Developing Future Leaders (DFL) Program, run by the Zelikovitz Centre for Jewish Studies, funded internship placements with Partner Agencies in the Jewish Community. The program was funded by private donations to the Zelikovitz Centre, and was a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa. There was no academic credit given for participating in this program. Over the years, the DFL Program has experienced tremendous success.

The DFL Program prioritized the selection of interns with established leadership skills, while focusing its energy on finding agreeable placements with partner agencies and continued leadership training throughout the school year.

The Program also emphasized creativity and flexibility in placements. Thus, in order to provide a suitable internship experience over the full academic year, interns were sometimes assigned to more than one placement or agency during the academic year. Placements were arranged according to what was best suited to the skills that the student would like to develop and according to the availability of suitable placements with partner agencies.
