- Is there a GPA requirement for admission?
-
At minimum, you must possess an Honours degree in Psychology with at least high honours standing (A- or 80%). However, admission to our program is very competitive and you will be judged against other highly qualified candidates in the admission pool.
- Are GRE scores required?
-
No, GRE scores are not required for admission to our Psychology graduate programs.
- Who can serve as a referee for my application?
-
A referee is a faculty member with whom you have studied and is able to assess your potential for graduate level study and research. References from non-academic supervisors may be accepted only under special circumstances.
You can read more about referees on the Graduate Admissions website.
- What is considered an Advanced Statistics course?
Advanced Statistics moves beyond basic statistics (e.g. theory) into more intermediate material (e.g. application) and is typically completed in year 3 or beyond. At Carleton, PSYC 3000 would be considered an Advanced Statistics course.
- What if I don't have an Honours degree in Psychology?
To be considered for admission, you must possess an Honours degree in Psychology with at least high honours standing (A- or 80%). Exceptions will not be made (e.g. if you have a general Psychology degree and did not complete the Honours program, or if you have an Honours degree in any other program that is not Psychology).
- I did a research project instead of a thesis for my Honours program. Is this be acceptable for the admissions requirement?
-
Unfortunately, because our program is in experimental psychology, we are strict about the thesis requirement and will not accept a research project in place of this.
- Would I be able to do the graduate program as a part-time student?
-
It is possible to do the program part-time. However, that will need to be a point of discussion between student and supervisor, as not all supervisors are willing to accept students who are not committed to full-time studies.
