COIN-OR is a repository of open source software for use in operations research. The organization awards the COIN-OR Cup prize yearly for the best use of, or contribution to, the software repository. (The “cup” is actually a souvenir coffee mug filled with chocolate coins. Yes really. They have a sense of humour.).  The winners this year were John Chinneck and ex-PhD students Mubashsharul Shafique and Laurence Smith, for the development of the CCGO global optimization software (see announcement). All of the chocolate coins have already mysteriously disappeared.

  1. Sincere congratulations for three well deserved awards received by John this year: Harvey J. Greenberg Award, the CORS Award of Merit and the COIN-OR Cup.
