Carleton biomedical engineering PhD student Alicia Gal (supervised by Prof. Adrian Chan) is working with Hockey Canada on a study of how sledge hockey’s seated style of skating actually works. The goal is to help Hockey Canada develop elite players, but also to grow the sport at the grassroots level everywhere. “There are some key things that can be standardized,” Gal says, “then, slightly adjusted for the individual. So that maybe a person who just needed that extra tweak at the beginning gets it, and they’ll be able to excel, and maybe even become our next gold-medal winning player.”
