Electric Typewriter

Manufacture Period: 1963

This typewriter was used by Allan Fotheringham from 1964 to 1984, during which he was a award winning and prominent journalist, writing for the Vancouver Sun, the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Sun, the National Post, as well as Maclean’s, where his column was published on the back page of the publication for 27 years.

Paillard, the Swiss family firm that produced the Hermes typewriter, was founded in 1814 and produced small mechanical goods such as watches and music box mechanisms. They expanded into typewriters as early as 1923.

Manufactured in Yverdon, Switzerland

Donated to the School of Journalism by Mrs. Anne Fotheringham, c. 2019
