The Oliver Typewriter Company produced it’s first typewriter, the Oliver No.1 in the fall of 1894, and operated as a premiere typewriter company until 1959. The Oliver No. 5 was manufactured between 1911 and 1914 (serial numbers 350,000 to 494,000), this one probably manufactured in late 1912 or early 1913.
A popular down strike typewriter, the Oliver No. 5 was a favourite in North America with 28 keys, while the concurrent 32 key unit, the Oliver No. 6, was more popular in Europe.
