Attention future journalists and media workers!
Communication Workers of America (CWA) Canada—who proudly represent workers at CBC, TVO and the National Observer—is hosting a free workshop in the Resource Centre on Thursday November 28 from 6–8 pm. This workshop is open to attend both in-person and online! Note: in case of capacity issues, in-person attendance will be prioritized for 3rd and 4th year students.
In this hour-long session, a CWA staff organizer and a worker organizer will share tips and advice on navigating today’s rapidly changing industry as interns, freelancers and employees. This workshop will focus primarily on journalism workplaces, but is open to all SJC students.
Students will gain practical skills and knowledge they can use throughout their careers, including: what to look out for in a contract; your rights under federal and provincial law; and how to negotiate a fair rate of pay.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end—followed by free pizza!
