Olivia Belovich

Biography

Olivia is a recent graduate of the University of Toronto, where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Book and Media Studies. Throughout her time at UofT, she has held a Design Editor position on the masthead of student publications The Varsity and The Strand.

Here, along with gaining extensive copy-editing experience, she wrote, edited, illustrated and photographed features and op-eds on a wide range of topics, such as Surveillance Capitalism, technology in academia and music and identity. A particular subject of interest in Olivia’s final undergraduate year—one in which she hopes to research further—is the anti-democratic and anti-artistic nature of generative AI and how it has become so seamlessly and dangerously engrained in our lives.

Olivia has always had a passion for reading, writing and crafting. After completing the program, she hopes to work as either an editor or investigative journalist who might seek to uncover narratives in everyday life. She is ecstatic to bring her perspective and passion to the MJ!
