Julie Chadwick
Biography
Julie’s passion for journalism started on the job when she co-founded a youth newspaper right out of high school, mentored by the photographers and reporters at her hometown daily newspaper in Nanaimo, B.C. She eventually became an editor and section editor there, and in 2017 went on the turn one of her feature stories into a non-fiction book, The Man Who Carried Cash, about the tumultuous relationship between country music superstar Johnny Cash and his Canadian manager Saul Holiff. Since then, Julie has won a variety of journalism awards and written for a range of publications such as Vice, Times Colonist, The Walrus and IndigiNews. A strong believer in the power of local journalism, in 2020 she was the founding reporter of The Discourse Nanaimo, a community-based online publication.
