Stints as the Globe’s Winnipeg bureau chief in the 1980s and reporter on Parliament Hill gave Geoffrey York keen insight into aboriginal issues in Canada; his book The Dispossessed was a long-time bestseller. Subsequently, in a 24-year career as foreign correspondent, York has run the Moscow and Beijing offices; since 2009, he’s covered Africa from Johannesburg. His writing has garnered a National Magazine Award and two National Newspaper Awards.
