Stories that challenge the mainstream narrative
When a major humanitarian disaster is under way, it’s not easy to report stories that challenge the mainstream narrative about the crisis. But that’s what Heba Aly learned to do as an intern for IRIN News, an independent nonprofit that provides “the inside story of emergencies” (now known as The New Humanitarian). Now she leads the organization. For her work, the World Economic Forum named Heba one of 100 Young Global Leaders under 40 in 2018.
