Karissa is a reformed print-first reporter with more than 10 years of experience, having published written work and photography in the Chatham Daily News, Georgia Straight, Edson Leader, Osoyoos Times, Blantyre Newspapers Limited papers, Toronto Star and Calgary Herald. Last year, in order to update her skills to the digital age, she studied at New York University in Jay Rosen’s Studio 20: Digital First master’s program, where she learned innovation theory, videography, data analysis, data visualization and coding, and worked as a multimedia reporter for New York Magazine’s Bedford + Bowery site. After her year studying abroad she is happy to be back home in Canada and to complete her Master’s Research Project at Carleton, which will involve coding a tool to automate media guides.
