Assistant Professor, Ryerson University's School of Journalism
Award-winning First Nations reporter teaching the next generation.
The residential school system, missing and murdered Indigenous women, the Idle No More movement: for her leadership in the coverage of these and many more stories over her career, Karyn Pugliese received the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards. Parliamentary reporter for the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network from 2000 to 2006, she had stints at ichannel, Vision TV and the Assembly of First Nations before returning to the network in 2012 and staying there until 2019. Now an assistant professor at Ryerson University’s School of Journalism, Pugliese puts her abundance of experience to practise by teaching the next generation of journalists.
