As thousands of Albertans were escaping the wildfires of Fort McMurray in spring 2016, Mark Iype, then city editor at the Edmonton Journal, ensured urgent information—and important stories—were reaching the public. He honed his skills first as a reporter for CanWest News Service, then as senior editor at Saint John’s Telegraph-Journal. In 2016, Iype’s passion for dynamic, multi-platform local journalism put him at the helm of the Journal and the Edmonton Sun.
