Ingrid Nielsen
Biography
After a varied and fulfilling career in federal government communications and policy, Ingrid is circling back to her first love, journalism. She first earned an honours degree in Political Science at Wilfrid Laurier University, where she became editor of the university newspaper after spending most of her four years in The Cord’s dingy, delightful offices. She then went on to work for about 10 years at various print publications, including The Globe and Mail and The Kitchener-Waterloo Record, while also earning her post-graduate degree in journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University. Life took a turn, and she moved to Yellowknife, NWT, and joined the federal public service. A few decades later, Ingrid is now eager to apply her broad knowledge and experience, and return to the news world to explore the current threats and opportunities facing modern journalism and what they mean for safeguarding democracy.
