Menaka Raman-Wilms


Menaka is driven by a passion for politics and international relations, and how large-scale issues affect the daily lives of individuals. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA in English and Political Science, and then an MA in English in the Field of Creative Writing.

In 2015 she spent six months living in Germany during the peak of the refugee crisis, and gained a deeper understanding of European politics and social issues.

Her short stories have received awards from Room Magazine and the Arts and Letters Club Foundation of Toronto. Menaka is also a singer, and for the past ten years has organized annual holiday concerts benefitting local charities.

Most recently, she has worked at a technology startup,, a Toronto company that helps people maintain business relationships. In addition to working with customers, she ran the company’s Women in Tech interview series.

Menaka is excited to embark on her MJ at Carleton, and plans to continue exploring the impact of politics and cultural trends on individuals.
