Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Zuhra is the first daughter of parents who immigrated from Somalia in the early-nineties. Her upbringing was immersed in one of the most diverse Canadian cities, enriched with culture, art and various ethnic backgrounds. Zuhra graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor’s in Media Studies and Communications. During her time at Brock, Zuhra was actively involved on campus and sought out to pursue representation in spaces where Muslim women lacked, in hopes of reflecting the beauty of diversity she experienced growing up.
At Brock, Zuhra spent time volunteering for the BrockPress, BrockTV, competed in a varsity sport, and joined the Brock’s Model United Nations Team where she competed in an international conference. Zuhra’s experiences gave her the confidence and skills to thrive. During her time spent at Brock, the stories of those she met and the story of her Canadian immigrant parents, all inspired her love for storytelling and is what has driven her to study Journalism at Carleton University in the Fall.
