Mastoor Al Kaboody
Current Program: PhD in ALDS
I am a doctoral student in ALDS, and I work under the supervision of Dr. Geoffrey Pinchbeck. I hold an MA in TESL from Northern Arizona University and OCELT accreditation from TESL Ontario. During my eight years of international experience teaching and managing ESL programs in higher education institutions, I realized that vocabulary knowledge is the fundamental type of knowledge necessary for any language use. Hence, my doctoral research focuses on vocabulary assessment. More specifically, my research aims to aid the selection of level-appropriate pedagogical texts for ESL programs and ESL learners via a combination of learner diagnostic testing and computer text profilers that use estimates of the words learners know.
As a life-long learner and researcher, I am fascinated by how languages are learned, and I intend to help make the journey of learning a second language as efficient and enjoyable as possible through teaching and research
