Thinking about graduate school or professional programs? Getting ready to apply? Not sure where to start? Career Services is here to help! This session is open to both current students and alumni regardless of your career goals and where you are at in the exploration or application process.

This in-person workshop will help attendees, in any year standing or program, think about:

  • Writing a high-quality personal statement that meets the required criteria
  • The differences between a CV and resume and when to use either one appropriately
  • Securing the right professional and academic references
  • Preparing for standardized admissions tests (if applicable)

There will also be time during the session to work on your personal statement/letter of intent or application and receive support and feedback.

What to expect:

This in-person workshop will consist of a PowerPoint presentation, interactive polls, discussion activities, and handouts that will be shared during the event. Digital handouts will be made available if necessary.

How to prepare:

  • You do not have to have a formalized career goal to attend.
  • Bring a pen and an electronic device with internet access to participate in some of the discussion activities.
  • In addition to the Part 2 workshop, consider registering for Applying to Graduate and Professional Studies Workshop – Part 1: What Do I Need to Know?, taking place Wednesday, February 28, 10:15am-12:15pm. This session will cover things to consider before applying to any graduate school and professional programs, how to research/compare schools and requirements, key timelines for applying, how to decide what offer to accept when there are multiple offers, and how Career Services can help with the consideration of graduate schools or professional programs. Please note that you can attend one or both sessions depending on your needs and schedule.
