Arpita Bajpeyi

M.A. Public History Student

Degrees:B.A. Hons (Ottawa)

Supervisor: Danielle Kinsey

Areas of Research:
Arpita will be documenting the history of the South Asian middle class in hill stations from the colonial to the early postcolonial era. Her study examines how South Asians modified their interpretation of these colonial landscapes to suit their own purpose and in the process naturalized these spaces into the subcontinent’s imagined cultural landscape. By understanding how this process was conducted, she hopes to contribute to a better understanding of how the physical and cultural landscapes of the colonial period are remembered in South Asia.
