I am currently completing my doctoral dissertation titled “Modeling Canada’s Aquatic Nature at the Dominion Fisheries Museum, 1884-1918,” under the supervision of Dr. Joanna Dean. This project examines the conceptual and material modeling of fish and other marine animals in Ottawa’s fisheries museum, which was demolished in 1918. My broad area of interest and research is 19th-20th century North American environmental with particular interests in history natural history museums, fisheries, and natural sciences. I have recently developed new skills in digital history and museum curatorship: I was project manager of the Rideau Timescapes iPhone app, a project directed by Dr. James Opp. With Dr. Joanna Dean, I co-curated the exhibit “Six Moments in the History of an Urban Forest” for the Bytown Museum. In these projects I draw on visual design skills honed during a previous career as a graphic designer.
