Basic Algebra – Grade 7 & 8*
*For younger students, this refers to the level of mathematics and not to the actual age.
The course will cover the following topics:
-
- algebraic expressions
- systems of equations
- sequences and series
- polynomials
- quadratic equations
- systems of linear inequalities
Basic Algebra is highly recommended before taking more advanced courses including Competitive Math I and II. Students with the top performance in Basic Algebra will automatically qualify for Competitive Math I.

Registration Information
There will be a free Admission Test for this course held on Saturday September 5th, 2026 from 10:00am to 10:45am at Carleton University(Exact Location will be announced before Aug 31st, 2026) . Registration for this free test is required (Deadline: August 31, 2026).
To succeed at the Admission Test for the Basic Algebra, students are expected to have strong knowledge of mathematics at grade 6 level. To ensure equal opportunities for all students, we do not release any further details about this test.
Please register for a (free) Admission Test before Aug 31st, 2026. Those who register for the Test will be sent information about the test location 1 week prior to the test. If you plan to write this test, please do not register for online course “Problem Solving in Algebra” – we will not be closing registrations in online courses before October 1.

For students with limited financial resources fee waivers may be available.
