Basic Algebra – Grade 7 & 8*

*For younger students, this refers to the level of mathematics and not to the actual age.

The course will cover the following topics:

    • algebraic expressions
    • systems of equations
    • sequences and series
    • polynomials
    • quadratic equations

2024/25 Course Information

The course will run from September 2024 to April 2025 on Wednesdays 6:00-7:30pm (with a break in December).

Course Instructor: Professor Song Cai scai@math.carleton.ca.

There will be a free Admission Test for this course held in September 2024. Registration for this free test is required.

Students who have registered for the Admission tests in both “Basic Algebra” and “Fundamentals of Geometry I” should write the admission test for “Basic Algebra”. For such students, admission to both courses will be based on the test for “Basic Algebra”.

To succeed at the Admission Test for the Basic Algebra, students are expected to have strong knowledge of mathematics at grade 6 level. To ensure equal opportunities for all students, we do not release any further details about this test.
