- Indira Gandhi Memorial Fellowship

Description: Two fellowships to the value of $10,000 each were established in 1985 by friends of India to honour the memory of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, 1966-1977 and 1980-1984. Awarded annually to two outstanding (preferably Visa) students enrolled in graduate programs. No application is required for these fellowships. The recipients will be chosen by an awards committee chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs from candidates recommended by departments, schools, and institutes having graduate programs. Description: Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, to an outstanding graduate student in mathematics, proceeding from one year to another. Eligible students must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), and must meet the Ontario residency requirements of the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Recipients must also demonstrate financial need. Endowed in 2003 by the friends, academic colleagues and the estate of Helga H. Schirmer, an outstanding topologist who was a member of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics for many years. - Agnes M. Ireland Bursary

Description: This bursary, valued at $4,800, was established from the Estate of Agnes Mary Ireland. It will be awarded to a student who requires financial assistance, has completed an undergraduate degree at Carleton University in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Public Affairs, or the Faculty of Science, and has enrolled in a graduate program within one year of graduation.The recipient will be chosen each year by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs from a list of candidates recommended by departmental chairs and school directors. Description: Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, to an outstanding international student entering a graduate program in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Carleton University. Preference will be for a student who does not have an undergraduate degree in pure mathematics. This scholarship is intended to support students who do not have other significant scholarship support. Endowed in 2006 by Mrs. Ghislaine Bose in memory of her husband Amitava Bose, PhD/77, former associate professor at Carleton University in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. To be eligible the student must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements and must demonstrate financial need. Endowed in 2004 by Lisa Shapiro (B.A. 1968, B.J. 1969) and the late Bill Hersh (B.J. 1969). Revised 2009. Part of the income from the David and Rachel Epstein Foundation Fund, which was established in 1970, has been designated to provide scholarships for outstanding graduate students at Carleton University.Up to twenty scholarships valued at $1,000 will be awarded annually to students from a list of candidates recommended by each department. - Dewan Chand and Ratna Devi Marwah Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics and Statistics
Description: These scholarships, valued at $1,500 each, were endowed in 1984 by Professor Kanta Marwah of the Department of Economics in honour and memory of her parents. It will be awarded annually to the most outstanding and deserving graduate students within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, preferably to one doctoral candidate in Mathematics and one in Statistics who, have successfully completed all course and comprehensive requirements, and are undertaking completion of a dissertation.
No application is required. The recipient will be selected by the Scholarship Committee, composed of the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, and Professor Kanta Marwah or her designate. The recipient of the award will be announced by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in September each year. Description: Awarded annually to graduate students who are entering the graduate program, or are proceeding from one year to the next of their program. Eligible students must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), and must meet the Ontario residency requirements of the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Recipients must also demonstrate financial need. Eligible students are those who have demonstrated excellence in the study of Photonics, Math, or Physics. The recipients will be selected by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, on recommendations submitted by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design. The candidate must have a strong vision of what he/she wants to achieve in life and must be developing or have developed, a multi-disciplinary approach in order to achieve this goal. The recipient will be chosen on the recommendation of a selection committee chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs from a list of candidates nominated by departments, schools and institutes.
