2023 Math Kangaroo Contest Training Mini-course
Carleton Math Enrichment Centre offers a FREE online Training mini-course for the Math Kangaroo Contest for Canadian students in grades 5-6 and 7-8. The format of this mini-course is modeled on the online math enrichment courses that we offer during the academic year (September to April). The philosophy of our online courses is to offer a personalized instruction to each student, and we are following the same approach with the Math Kangaroo Contest training mini-course.
The structure of the mini-course will be the following:
- There will be an online class taught by the Math Kangaroo expert and contest organizer Valeria Pandelieva, held on Sunday February 26. In this class Valeria will review common strategies and provide tips for solving problems on Math Kangaroo Contest, using examples from past contests. Grade 5-6 class will be held 1:00-2:30pm Eastern Standard Time, and grade 7-8 class will be held 3:30-5:00pm EST (February 26).
- Students will be given a list of challenging Math Kangaroo-style problems as a home assignment.
- During the week-end of March 4-5 each student will have a one-on-one individual 15-minute Zoom meeting with a Teaching Assistant, where each student will have an opportunity to discuss the solutions to the assigned problems with a Carleton University Math Honours student, and get help where needed.
- Solutions to the assigned problems will be submitted by Wednesday March 8.
- Submitted solutions will be marked and feedback will be provided by Sunday March 12.
This online training mini-course is FREE, however registration is required by Wednesday February 22.
