This course will be assignment-based. Each Wednesday we will post a pre-recorded lecture and an assignment with 10 challenging problems. The key element of this course is one-on-one meetings with the Teaching Assistants, who are Carleton undergraduate Math Honours students. Each student in this course will book each week (Friday to Monday) an individual time slot, at a time convenient for you, for a 15-minute one-on-one discussion with a Teaching Assistant. The purpose of this meeting is to review the progress on the home assignment and get help with any difficulties. There is also an alternative option to book a 30-minute time slot with 2 students. After the meeting with a Teaching Assistant, students will complete home assignments, which will be submitted the following Wednesday for marking.
There will be no admission test for this course. This course is a pre-requisite for a subsequent course “Competitive Math I”. For Ottawa students we recommend taking in-person “Basic Algebra” course.
