The Politics of Theorizing Trauma and Repair: Wagers Toward a Good Enough World

Drawing on literature from international relations theory, this talk discusses the political stakes of theorizing trauma. It further argues that trauma researchers need to continue to expand understandings of trauma by developing a more nuanced grammar of vulnerability, and that they need to be reflexive in this process, articulating as clearly as possible the political stakes of wagering on one account of trauma, or one theory of vulnerability, or one conceptualization of harm and suffering, over another.
