“After completing my undergraduate degree at Carleton, I earned my MA from the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton, part of which I spent on exchange to Aberystwyth University, and (much later on) my PhD from the Department of Government at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom. I’ve pursued a career in survey research and data science, mainly in the private sector, at firms such as Pollara, Gallup, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and most recently at Momentive (previously known as SurveyMonkey). I’ve had the opportunity to do election polling, issue polling, analyze multi-language, multi-country hotel guest survey data, and to design representative survey samples of the Iraqi population during the Iraq War, and just about every kind of survey research project in between. I’ve also had the opportunity to teach and do academic research in Australia (at the University of Melbourne and the University of Queensland) where I advised the Australian Government on redesigning their longitudinal survey of refugees in Australia, and served as a co-principal investigator for the World Values Survey in Indonesia.”
My undergraduate degree in political science from Carleton equipped me with the foundational knowledge and skills – an understanding human behaviour within different social and political contexts, quantitative and analytical skills, and communication skills – that I still use as a social scientist and data scientist today.
