Cassandra Szabo started the PhD program at Carleton in September of 2021. Her research focuses are on understanding the complex interconnectedness of social, economic, and political realities. Working alongside professor Achim Hurrelmann, her dissertation will be looking at various nation states responses to Covid-19 and how governance models and policy prescriptions addresses the multifaceted challenges Covid-19 brought about.
Cassandra did her undergraduate studies (BA) in International Development from the University of Winnipeg, then did her Masters of Development Practice: In Indigenous Development (MDP) from the University of Winnipeg as well.
Cassandra worked at a homeless shelter in Winnipeg researching and implementing programs to address issues faced by the community needing the resources. Some of her other past work includes an Environmental Justice project in Southern India, a longitudinal labor market intermediary study in Northern Manitoba, and an associated employment support project in Northern Manitoba.
Within the department of Political Science at Carleton, Cassandra is working with professor Achim Hurrelmann on a grant related to The European Union’s governance and policy making, and working as a teaching assistant with world politics.
