Good day Herzberg occupants,

We would like to inform you of two major projects scheduled this summer in the Herzberg building.

1. Block A – 200 Wing Window Replacement (April 27 – July 3, 2026)

Facilities Management and Planning (FMP) will be completing phased window replacement work in Herzberg Laboratories (Block A: 200 wing; rooms2201, 2203, 2205, 2217, 2221, 2229, 2239, 2249, 2259, 2269, 2279, 2270, 2260, 2250, 2240A, 2240B, 2240, 2220, 2210, 3201, 3205, 3215, 3217, 3230, 3230H, 3230G, 3230F, 3230E, 3230D, 3230C, 3230B, 3220, 3210, 4201, 4205, 4215, 4217, 4221, 4229, 4239, 4249, 4259, 4269, 4279, 4270, 4260, 4250, 4220, 4214, 4210, 5201,, 5203, 5215, 5217, 5221, 5229, 5239, 5249, 5259, 5269, 5279, 5270, 5260, 5250, 5240, 5230, 5220, 5210 ) as part of ongoing building renewal and envelope improvements.

To ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently, access to offices and rooms along the active construction elevations will be temporarily restricted during each construction phase: There will be no access to rooms with windows facing Steacie Building from April 27th to June 12th.; There will be no access to rooms with windows facing Paterson/ARISE from  May18th to July 3rd; and the Office of the Dean of Science will be relocating from April 27th to July 3rd to CTTC suite 4100.  Occupants will be informed when the work is complete and they can move back into the impacted spaces.

2. Block B – 5100 Wing Mechanical Room Refurbishment (Starting April 27, 2026)

Beginning Monday, April 27, refurbishment work will start in the mechanical room on the 5th floor of Block B (100 wing; rooms 5101, 5105, 5107, 5115, 5125A, 5125B, 5125C, 5125D, 5127, 5129, 5130, 5131, 5135, 5137, 5145, 5145A, 5145B, 5151, 5161, 5163, 5165, 5167, 5169, 5171, 5173, 5175, 5177, 5166, 5170, 5126, 5124, 5174, 5180). The entire floor will be locked out for the duration of the project, with no access permitted tononconstruction personnel. This work is expected to continue until the end of August 2026.

Herzberg Building Impact Summary:

Block C (300 wing) and the Inco wing (400 wing): Zero to minimal impact expected.

Power: No planned building power outages.

Service/Freight elevator: Scheduled downtimes will occur for contractor equipment deliveries; notifications will be posted in advance. Freight elevator will be in service for furniture moves, Apr 27th – May 5th. The Movers will accommodate any occupant usage requests.

Air conditioning: AC will remain operational throughout all Herzberg wings.

Noise: Minimal noise is expected. Notices will be issued ahead of any major noise activities.

Circulation: Signage will be posted for any staircase closures or emergency exit impacts.

Exterior: Contractor movement daily at the perimeter of Block A: 200wing. Signage and fencing will be installed. Loading dock area will have minor traffic flow impacts due to contractor waste disposal bins.

Updates: Will be communicated regularly for the Herzberg Building occupants.

IT room cooling: there will be impact to rooms 2365, 4420 and 5491 for a short time – this will be communicated and coordinated with the room occupants.
