Using comics to teach about mobile online privacy
Abstract
Users’ privacy is increasingly being jeopardized by images uploaded using smartphones. These images have detailed metadata that can be used maliciously. We designed an on- line interactive comic to study whether this kind of teaching media can eectively communicate to end-users about the risks associated with mobile online privacy. We present the learning outcomes of our comic prototype based on compar- isons of a pretest questionnaire with a follow-up question- naire one week later. We found signicant improvements in participants’ understanding and the majority of users re- ported positive changes in mobile privacy behaviour.
