Barbara McInnes was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2:00 p.m. ceremony on Friday, June 10, “in recognition of her service to the community as a volunteer and local organizer and for her development of the Community Foundation of Ottawa.”
Ms. McInnes joined the foundation at its 1987 inception, overseeing its growth to more than $100 million in assets and creating an international reputation for excellence.
She has been on the Board of Governors at Carleton University, president of the Ottawa Estate Planning Council and the Ottawa School of Art, and a board member of the United Way and numerous other associations. She currently serves as a director of the Shorefast Foundation, HUB Ottawa, the Telus Ottawa Community Board and Match International Women’s Fund.
Barbara won the 2014 Volunteer Ottawa Lifetime Achievement Award, 2012 Key to the City, 2008 Order of Canada, 2004 Community Service Award – Academy of Medicine Ottawa and the 2001 Volunteer of the Year – Volunteer Ottawa.
