Margaret Bloodworth was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2:00 p.m. ceremony on Wednesday, June 8 “in recognition of her outstanding career in public service and leadership service to the community.”
She completed her distinguished public service career as national security adviser to the prime minister and associate secretary to the cabinet, a post she held from 2006 to 2008. Prior to that, she was deputy minister of Transport (a post she held during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks), deputy minister of National Defense, and the first deputy minister of Public Safety.
She chairs the boards of the Council of Canadian Academies and Cornerstone Housing for Women and is a member of the boards of the Community Foundation of Ottawa and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation.
A member of the Order of Canada, she has been awarded the Public Service of Canada Outstanding Achievement Award and the Vanier Medal of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada.
