Business Man Philippe Camus was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, June 10, “in recognition of a distinguished career and leadership European aerospace and strong promotion of transatlantic co-operation m defence.”
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Camus led the way in improving the European Aerospace industry. He has also been a strong proponent of fostering co-operation in defence.
Mr. Camus joined the Lagardére Group in 1982 25 executive chairman of the Finance Committee of the Matra Croup and served in that capacity till 1992. He was appointed Managing Director of the Lagardere Group in 1993 and has been co-managing partner of Lagardere SCA since 1998.
His expertise in international negotiations and management was instrumental in bringing about the creation of EADS, the world’s second largest aerospace industry.
Philippe Camus was the member of the French supervisory authority for the financial market from 1996 to 2001 and was the President of GIFAS (French Aerospace Industries Association) from 2001 to 2005. He is also the Board Member of the Institut d’Expertise et de Prospective of the Institut de l’Ecole Normale Superieure and has been a Director of Schlumberger since 2007.
He was appointed chairman of the board of Alcatel-Lucent, Paris, in September 2008 He has received the Cross of the German Merit Order (Verdienstkreuz – 1. Klasse) and has been made the Officier of the French Legion d’Honneur
Mr Camus has an Economics and Finance degree from the Institut Etudes Politiques de Paris, a physics degree from the Ecole Normale Superieure (rue do Ulm) and a doctorate in Actuarial Sciences.
