Alumni Memory: Chris Taylor, MJ ’97

A Moment in History

As history would have it, we happened to be going to Carleton J-school at the time of the Quebec referendum back in 1995, when Canada very nearly came apart. When it started to become clear that the referendum was won — 50.6% to 49.4%, as it turned out — a few of us J-schoolers went up to Parliament Hill to witness that moment of history. I remember then-Prime Minister Jean Chretien coming out, standing up on the bumper of his car, and raising his arms in celebration. Not many people got to see that moment in person, but we did. – Chris Taylor, MJ ’97.
