Before joining Carleton University’s SLaLS in 2017, Mike taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at the University of British Columbia (2012-’17) and English literature in Quebec’s CEGEP system (2007-’11). His current teaching and research interests include adapting EAP pedagogy to the new realities of generative AI; modelling learner vocabulary knowledge and using automatic text profilers to match students to reading texts; and helping graduate engineering students, both native and non-native speakers, communicate their research effectively.
The text profiling website he helped create for ESLA faculty and students can be found here.
