CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
SEEING OURSELVES: INDIGENOUS STORIES IN FOCUS
Carleton University and Wapikoni present “Seeing Ourselves: Indigenous Stories in Focus,” a unique media-curation experience offered by a passionate creative collective at Carleton University in Ottawa and hosted by Film and Indigenous studies scholar, Adam Saulis. Adam is Wolastoqiyik and has years of experience working at The Bytowne–one of Ottawa’s independent cinemas–and organizing screenings for Carleton’s Audio-Visual Resource Center and the Ojigkwanong Indigenous Students’ Centre.

This paid workshop series is especially designed for Indigenous students, scholars, and artists interested in curation and exhibition, and we’d love to have you join us in this project, which will include:
- The chance to discuss and hone skills in media analysis, selection, curatorial vision, and exhibition as well as build relationships with experienced members of academic and arts-based communities.
- The opportunity to collaboratively curate a catalogue of Wapikoni shorts to be screened publicly at Carleton and during Wapikoni stopovers and events.
- Learning about curating alternate media forms and gaining creative inspiration from experiencing a short, Indigenous-authored, immersive virtual reality film at Carleton’s Experiential Learning Hub.
- Meet and talk with an Indigenous multimedia artist with a deep understanding of, and extensive practical experience in, filmmaking, curation, and exhibition. This artist will provide specific guidance to each media-curation participant.
- A dedicated smudging space.
- Lunch will be provided for the Wednesday workshops.
