still shot from film of two children sitting on the sidewalk, looking at the camera“I Did It All For You”, the short documentary produced in last year’s HIST 4302 class by Jenn Ko, Sabrina Nemis, Ryan Pickering and Amina Egeh will have it’s world premiere on November 13, 2016 at the Reel Asian International Film Festival.

The film is a narrative historical documentary about the Vietnamese Boat People who settled in Canada after 1979, the difficulties they faced, and the Ottawa mayor who pushed to bring them in. A story about cyclical waves, crashing and lulling, in the refugee experience, global migration and immigration.

The Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is a unique showcase of contemporary Asian cinema and work from the Asian diaspora. Works include films and videos by East, South and Southeast Asian artists in Canada, the U.S., Asia and all over the world. As Canada’s largest Asian film festival, Reel Asian provides a public forum for Asian media artists and their work, and fuels the growing appreciation for Asian cinema in Canada.
