On Thursday March 10, 2022 Jennifer Evans gave the 23rd annual J.B. McLachlan Memorial Lecture at Cape Breton University to an audience that included the regional mayor.

“Learning from the Germans about the Legacy of Genocide” explored the little known story of local actors – Jewish as well as German – and the essential role they played in nudging West Germany to acknowledge its murderous past. Evans argued that the local and national level forms of commemoration that make up German memory culture today hold valuable insights for Canadian efforts at reconciliation for the historic and ongoing impact of colonial violence.

She also gave an interview with CBC Cape Breton’s Steve Sutherland and the Information Morning show.
