What is your favourite thing about the program?
I enjoyed learning about the histories of various cultures and topics. Learning history at Carleton is always a pleasure, as it takes students through the course content in a manner similar to an interesting novel.
What will you miss the most?
I’ll miss Sean Graham’s radio history course. I majored in journalism, and it was especially interesting to learn about the history of radio, while being in third-year radio journalism production!
What is your favourite reading/book/text from the program?
Hands down had to be The Affective Power of Sound: Oral History on Radio by Siobhán McHugh. The article is a good read on what orality and aurality are, and how they are related to effective audio storytelling. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to get into radio, podcasting, or anything that involves narration.
What’s next for you?
I don’t really know what’s next for me. I’m currently working on some of my own creative projects, but I hope to someday be working for a sports media company to cover basketball and the Toronto Raptors.
