We appreciate that the ever-changing travel landscape can make planning for your arrival in Canada challenging and uncertain. Carleton University is aware of the announcement from the Government of Canada regarding travel restrictions impacting flights from Morocco.

The information outlined below is meant only as a guide, and students are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring that they meet the travel and quarantine requirements at the time of their arrival in Canada.

The Government of Canada announcement provides the following guidance on these measures:

  • Transport Canada issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting all direct commercial and private passenger flights to Canada from Morocco until October 29, 2021.
  • Transport Canada is also amending the Interim Order Respecting Certain Requirements for Civil Aviation Due to COVID-19, related to third-country pre-departure COVID-19 molecular tests to include travellers to Canada from Morocco via an indirect route. This means that passengers who depart Morocco to Canada via an indirect route, will be required to obtain a valid COVID-19 pre-departure test from a third country – other than Morocco – before continuing their journey to Canada.

If you have already booked your travel to Canada, we recommend that you reach out to your airline to learn more about how your flight and travel itinerary could be impacted.

Students planning to travel are reminded that the decision to travel is a personal one, and they should plan to travel only when it is safe to do so and that travel is at their own risk. Due to the rapidly evolving public health crisis posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions are changing without notice, and students are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring they meet the entry requirements to Canada at the time they arrive at the Port of Entry. We recommend that students not book their travel until after they have reviewed the new travel and quarantine measures carefully, checked with their airlines, and have consulted with the ISSO at isso@carleton.ca.

As information becomes available, the ISSO will update our COVID-19 FAQs, Quarantine Planning Support website, and include an item in our newsletter. We encourage students with plans to travel to continue to keep in touch with our office for additional guidance and support.
