Join us for this panel discussion event, where participants will examine the concept of statelessness!
The 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons defines stateless persons as “a person who is not considered as a national by any State under the operations of its law”. The stateless are unique in that they do not possess nationality to any country. While some people are born stateless and some become stateless over the course of their lives, the United Nations estimates that there are currently 10 million persons who are currently stateless. Statelessness is a significant human rights challenge which is often the concomitant effect of racial and gendered discrimination. It raises serious concerns about belonging and identity, even more, it raises crucial questions about enjoyment and access to human rights and integration in social, political and economic life.
